LAUNDRY ROOM REVEAl

Our laundry room is small but it has potential to be a great use of space. While it’s the first room you walked into as you enter the unfinished basement, I needed this space to be something where I could still store everything it needed to hold, while also staying clutter free as it was a high traffic area, especially when the basement is finished.

I wanted it to feel moody yet inviting and feel like a space where I actually enjoyed doing laundry.

I think I accomplished exactly what I dreamed this space could be.

THE BEFORE

This space couldn't get any worse as an unfinished basement, but we thankfully had a little to work with. The framed wall was ready to go, and the only structural change we decided to make was closing off the doorway slightly and moving an electrical outlet. I took out the old shelves that were hanging above the dryer along with the makeshift hanging rack.

BUILDING THE ARCH

Building the arch is more simple than you think. We framed everything out with 2 by 4s, built the arch shape, and framed it out with hardy board instead of drywall since we were adding the shiplap panels. We used this flex moulding to go around the arch and I think this is a much better way to trim out an arch versus plain old drywall. I’m so happy with it!

THE DETAILS

  • I opted for shiplap panels like this one. It was less time consuming and more affordable than these shiplap boards.

  • I added crown moulding

  • Paint is Benjamin Moore French Grey in a satin finish.

  • I choose brass accents for the room and love these handles that add a pretty detail to the cabinets.

  • For the flooring, I wanted to do checkered tile. I used these white tiles and these grey tiles. I love the traditional style of this pattern.
